Emergence Festival 2022 - Open Call

Emergence is a festival which:

• Helps women to move ahead as artists as well as mothers
• Calls for and creates more spaces for women and mothers to make and show work
• Explores the challenges of balancing a creative practise with being a mother
• Acknowledges and celebrates the potential in the unfinished, imperfect and organic

To apply for Emergence Festival you must:

• Identify as a mother, or be someone making work about the motherhood journey
• Our definitions of 'mother' include: mothers and non-binary parents, expectant, new, grand, great grand, step, foster, adoptive mothers, those with babies, or older children, mothers without living children, mothers who breastfeed, mothers who bottlefeed, mothers of any race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and mothers with a disability
• Be local to Frome and the surrounding areas

We are interested in finding the below (don’t worry, you don’t have to tick all the boxes):

• Those who have little exposure or little opportunity for arts practise
• Those who have not shown work at the festival before
• Professional artists in the early years of motherhood
• Voices from diverse backgrounds
• Art that encourages engagement and dialogue, is immersive, interactive and exploratory
• Collaboration between artists
• Work made especially for the festival and its themes
• Low carbon and/or of benefit to the environment

We celebrate and revel in the unfinished, imperfect and organic! You do not have to present us with a complete project, we would love to discuss ideas.
